About Fernandes Guitars
Founded in Tokyo in 1969, Fernandes began by building classical flamenco guitars and grew quickly into one of Japan's premier manufacturers. Working alongside legendary Japanese factories, it earned a reputation for quality and forward-looking design, and built two identities at once: the high-quality Gibson-style replicas of its Burny brand, and its own line of inventive, original instruments.
Though the company closed its doors in 2024, its impact lives on through the iconic guitars and the Sustainer technology that still inspire players around the world.

Fernandes Guitars, answered
Fernandes started in Tokyo in 1969, building flamenco guitars. It grew fast and became one of Japan’s biggest guitar makers, mixing traditional building with a real appetite for new ideas.
Through the 1970s and ’80s the company moved into electric guitars, basses, amps, and accessories, working with well-known Japanese factories such as Matsumoku, Tokai, Kawai, and Dyna Gakki.
