Code of Conduct. 1999 was a year of big changes for Fernandes USA and the Vertigo, setting new rules for the way the guitar and bass product lines were designed and marketed, with clear disctinctions between the different series, as it is to this day. The Elite featured top construction and parts along with the Fernandes Sustainer. The Deluxe had the same construction standards as the Elite but didn't have the Sustainer system or certain parts and was available in different finishes. The Standard was a mid-level version, stripped down but with great craftsmanship and affordable price. And Finally the X series was the entry-level model, featuring bolt-on neck and basic features.

Vertigo Artist Profile: Balsac the Jaws of Death

    Gwar-1997-web

Balsac the Jaws of Death, the humanoid creature with a face resembling a bear-trap, usually portrayed wielding a giant battleaxe, is the rhythm guitarist in the American satirical heavy metal band GWAR.

Formed in Richmond, Virginia in 1984, the band is well known for its elaborate science fiction/horror film inspired costumes, obscene lyrics and graphic stage performances, which feature humorous enactments of politically and morally taboo themes. In contrast to the other bandmates, Balsac speaks with a pretentious British accent until Lust in Space, where he speaks with an American accent during an argument with Oderus Urungus on the track "Where Is Zog?", though he also speaks without an accent during the argument in "Have You Seen Me" from The Road Behind EP.

The band was officially endorsed by Fernandes Guitars in 1997, when Beefcake The Mighty played Gravity basses, Flattus Maximus Dragonfly guitars and Balsac a Vertigo H-85.

    Vertigo Artist Profile: Rick Nielsen

    ricknielsen-1997-news

Richard A. "Rick" Nielsen (born December 22, 1948) is the lead guitarist, backing vocalist, and primary songwriter of the classic rock band CHEAP TRICK, formed in Rockford, IL in 1973. The appearance of Rick on stage was influenced by Huntz Hall of The Bowery Boys; wearing his signature flipped up old style ball cap. His use of the black and white checkerboard motif on his clothing was in line with the use in other parts of pop culture, including Checkerboard Vans sneakers, that feature in the 1982 movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Rick picked up a Vertigo for the first time in Japan in 1996 and was immediately hooked to it's unique shape and tone, adding it to his guitar collection.

On August 11, 2012, Rick Nielsen and the Board of the Burpee Museum of Natural History in Rockford, Illinois, unveiled Rick's Picks, an exhibit that tells the story of Rick's passions for guitars, music and rock & roll. Visitors are able to see a collection of Rick's guitars, personal items, stage clothing and Cheap Trick memorabilia.

Taking the spotlight. In 1997 the new Vertigo H-80 was featured on the cover of Fernandes USA product catalog, bringing the trademark shape to central image of the brand. In this year, the current Fernandes horizontal logo along the headstock was introduced to the H Series bringing the signature image to the classic models. The HB-65 (Vertigo Bass) was briefly discontinued to be revamped and brought back into production in 1998.

The H-80 featured chrome-covered mini humbuckers and black bell knobs, giving it a classy vintage look and replacing the floyd-equipped H-85, which was also being redesigned and scheduled to come back as the Vertigo Elite in 1999.
